Veteran actress Ngozi Nwosu recently shared that she has chosen not to work for free in her home state of Abia, due to a lack of support during a critical health battle in 2012. In an interview with Nollywood on Radio, the 61-year-old actress recalled feeling overlooked by the Abia state government during her kidney-related illness, which led her to make this personal decision.

Nwosu emphasized that any future projects she’s involved in with Abia State will come with a fee. “I’ve made it clear—if my state ever needs my services, it won’t be for free. They’ll have to compensate me fairly. I’m from Arochukwu in Abia,” she shared.

Reflecting on the support she received at that difficult time, Nwosu acknowledged the Lagos state government, which came through for her after someone who admired her work reached out. “It was the recognition I’d gained from my roles that ultimately saved me. Someone who loved my performances called on the Lagos government to help when I was down, and I’ll always be grateful for that support,” she added.

Nwosu’s career began in Yoruba cinema, and she later became a household name for her role in Living in Bondage, which solidified her place in the Nollywood industry.
