Veteran Nollywood actress Binta Ayo Mogaji has offered candid advice to women over the age of 35, urging them to prioritize motherhood even outside of marriage. In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the 60-year-old actress shared her views on the societal pressures women face and the realities of marriage and motherhood.
Mogaji, who became a mother at 40, encouraged women who desire children not to let societal expectations hold them back. She emphasized that if a woman hasn’t found a partner by age 35, she should consider having a child, even if it’s outside of wedlock.
Addressing the struggles women face when seeking marriage later in life, Mogaji explained, “At 35 or older, if you don’t have a husband but you’re in a relationship with someone who isn’t ready for marriage but wants a child, go ahead and have that child—even if he doesn’t take responsibility.”
She pointed out that societal norms often label women as “too old” for marriage after a certain age, and men are encouraged to pursue younger women. Mogaji added, “Even if you marry at that age, by the time your child grows up, you may already be older, while others your age are becoming grandmothers.”
For women who have the opportunity to have children, Mogaji advises them to embrace it, saying, “If there’s someone who cares for you and you want children together, go ahead. And if you can’t find someone to father the child, then consider adoption.”
Her perspective offers a bold approach to motherhood, encouraging women to take control of their lives and make choices that align with their desires, regardless of societal pressure.
