The House of Representatives on Monday issued a warning to social media activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, threatening legal action if he refuses to cooperate. The warning came from the chairman of the committee investigating bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
As reported, VeryDarkMan appeared before the lawmakers as requested but refused to speak, citing the absence of Bobrisky and the EFCC chairman. In response, the committee asserted that the activist cannot dictate how they proceed with the investigation. They reminded him that he was there to present his testimony, and they would handle the other parties who failed to attend.
The committee warned that if VeryDarkMan continues to withhold his statement, they have the authority to arrest him. The chairman urged his lawyer to advise him appropriately, stating, “You cannot decide whether Bobrisky appears or not. That is for us to determine, and we can compel him to attend. If you refuse to cooperate, we will use our powers.”
The lawmakers emphasized that VeryDarkMan’s allegations led to the summoning of high-ranking officials, and it is crucial for him to provide his testimony. The committee added, “You are already here to testify, and I advise you to proceed. Don’t be misled. We expect you to speak to the claims you’ve made.”
