Phyna Calls Out Dangote Group Over Sister’s Death
Reality TV star Phyna has accused the Dangote Group of failing her family in the aftermath of her sister Ruth Otabor’s passing.
In a series of emotional posts on Instagram, the Big Brother Naija winner claimed that while the company publicly promised to cover medical and burial costs, her family was left to shoulder most of the expenses.
According to her, Dangote Group only settled the hospital bill at Lagoon Hospital. Other costs—from Ruth’s transfer between Auchi and Irrua to mortuary and burial payments—were borne by the family, with no reimbursement.
Phyna said calls placed to the company on the day of the burial, September 13, were ignored. This, she argued, contradicted public statements that all bills had been cleared.
She also alleged that a letter later sent to her father by the company, asking him to acknowledge receipt of burial funds, was prepared without her family’s input. She described the move as disrespectful and deeply painful.
Beyond the financial burden, Phyna expressed worry for Ruth’s children, especially her eldest, who turns six on October 2. She said no support has been offered to them since their mother’s death, adding that the company’s actions seemed designed to silence her family.
“So far, Dangote Group has not done anything at all,” Phyna wrote. “You crushed her, it’s your responsibility to treat her. She died, it’s your responsibility to bury her. And now, everyone is acting mute and dumb. Nobody is talking about her kids.”
For Phyna, the matter goes beyond money. She insists her late sister deserves justice and vows not to stop speaking until her family gets the accountability they seek.
As of now, the Dangote Group has not issued a fresh response to her claims.
