Nigerian artist Paul Okoye, famously known as Rude Boy, has set strict criteria for new signees to his record label, Fire Department Inc. According to Naija News, Rude Boy founded Fire Department Inc. in 2019, shortly after the split from his twin brother Peter Okoye’s group, Psquare.
Though the brothers reunited in November 2021, their reconciliation was brief, and they’ve since experienced tensions.
During an Instagram Live session, Rude Boy expressed that many Nigerian artists, upon gaining fame, feel they no longer need a record label. To address this, he outlined his conditions for signing new artists: they must provide property as collateral and have their parents co-sign a formal agreement. Additionally, any artist caught smoking will face a N10 million fine.
He stated, “Some believe they’re too big for a record label. So, here are my demands: bring property, and your parents must sign off. If you’re caught smoking as my artist, it’ll cost you N10 million. That’s why if you keep asking when I’ll sign new artists, I honestly don’t know.”
