Yvonne Jegede Apologizes to May Yul-Edochie for Supporting Yul’s Decision to Venture into Polygamy

Actress Yvonne Jegede has offered a heartfelt apology to May Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, following her recent remarks on Yul’s exploration of polygamy.

During a podcast discussion, the single mother of one expressed her support for Yul’s potential second marriage, stating that she saw no issue with it. Jegede highlighted that many of those criticizing Yul hail from families with multiple wives and urged them to refrain from condemning the actor’s choice.

“You see, this Yul Edochie, the majority of those criticizing him online come from families with second, third, fourth, and even fifth wives. Sometimes, they’re even from families with unrecognized wives. Let’s avoid being irrational on the internet. He’s embracing his truth, but hardly anyone is backing him, not even me. I have to side with the majority to avoid backlash. I don’t perceive anything wrong with what he’s doing; most of us have roots in polygamous families,” Jegede expressed.

In further support of Edochie, Jegede questioned the societal double standards surrounding polygamous relationships, citing the case of Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels.

However, her remarks drew criticism from social media users who perceived them as an indirect slight towards May, who has reportedly endured significant pain since her marriage to the actor ended.

In a released statement, Yvonne expressed regret over the misinterpretation of her words, acknowledging that they may have been construed as insensitive towards May Edochie, a woman who has faced hardships due to her estranged marriage.

“I deeply regret any distress my comments may have caused. It was never my intention to cause pain or disrespect. I am truly sorry,” Ms. Jegede stated.

She clarified that her remarks were taken out of context and that during the interview, she aimed to shed light on her own failed marriage and the challenges faced by single mothers.
