The demons in Prince Harry’s head must be haunting him right now, following their nearly fatal car chase with a paparazzi. If any of this sounds familiar, it’s because his mother died under similar circumstances. The princess was dating Egyptian module Dodi Al Fayed in the early 1990s, and the couple was pursued by a thirsty paparazzi, which ended in tragedy.

According to last night’s reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were involved in a near-fatal car chase through the streets of New York City as paparazzi pursued them. Pedestrians and two NYPD officers were also involved in the incident. Meghan Markle attended an award ceremony with Prince Harry and her mother on Tuesday night. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pursued by paparazzi after leaving the ceremony, resulting in a near-accident after a car chase.

The events unfolded as follows, according to a spokesperson for Prince Harry: “Last night, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.” This two-hour-long pursuit resulted in multiple near-collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD officers.

“The Duke and Duchess understand that while being a public figure brings with it a level of public interest, it should never come at the expense of anyone’s safety.” Given the methods by which these images were obtained, disseminating them encourages a highly intrusive practice that is hazardous to all involved.”

A terrible deja vú for Prince Harry

Prince Harry lost his mother when he was far too young, in the same way, he nearly lost it last night. The involvement of paparazzi, who are always looking for that snap that will get them a payday, makes it impossible not to connect one event to the other. When a celebrity visits a city where paparazzi are constantly present, everything spirals out of control.

Celebrities know that New York City is a popular destination. Fortunately, the Sussexes are unharmed, but the accident that followed a nearly 2-hour car chase has left them shaken. We’d like to tell you that when something like this happens, the paparazzi learn a lesson, but we’d be lying. All these people are concerned with is capturing the best exclusive image of a specific celebrity.
