Musa Kwankwaso, a former commissioner under ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against entering into any political agreement with Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Kwankwaso raised concerns about Rabiu Kwankwaso’s tendency to break political promises and advised that any discussions between the two should involve key All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders from Kano.
In a statement to the press, Musa Kwankwaso said, “President Tinubu’s talks with Kwankwaso regarding a potential merger with the APC should include Kano APC leaders such as Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Majority Leader Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and other prominent figures like State Housing Minister Tijjani Gwarzo and APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.”
He stressed that it’s important for Tinubu to involve these key party members as witnesses to safeguard any agreements made. Kwankwaso pointed out that Rabiu Kwankwaso may not honor any arrangements, despite dealing directly with the President.
Kwankwaso went on to explain that Rabiu Kwankwaso stands to gain the most from a rumored alliance, as his influence within the NNPP is weakening. “Kwankwaso is losing support, with many of his loyalists, including elected officials from Nasarawa State, defecting to the APC. Even in Kano, his base is shrinking, and several National Assembly members are reportedly leaving the NNPP,” he said.
He concluded by saying that Kwankwaso’s eagerness for a deal with the APC reflects his growing political uncertainty, urging Tinubu to approach with caution.
