Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has voiced his concerns about the club’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, criticizing his discipline on the field. Evra’s remarks came after Manchester United’s disappointing 2-1 loss to West Ham United in the Premier League, a match in which Fernandes led the team.

During a candid conversation with fellow United legend Rio Ferdinand on the YouTube channel “Rio Ferdinand Presents,” Evra expressed his admiration for Fernandes but felt it was necessary to address certain shortcomings in his performance.

“I truly appreciate Bruno,” Evra began. “When he first joined the squad, I was thrilled, thinking, ‘What a player!’ His transition to the Premier League was impressive, and his skills added a fresh dynamic to the team.”

However, he didn’t hold back on his critique. “Despite my respect for him, I have to say he seems to lack discipline on the pitch. There seems to be some confusion regarding his role; it’s unclear where he should be playing, and that’s a concern,” Evra noted.

He stressed the importance of players fulfilling their responsibilities, stating, “With all due respect, I don’t think Bruno is currently meeting the demands that Manchester United needs to thrive.”

Evra’s comments reflect the ongoing struggles the team is experiencing and the high expectations placed on their captain during a challenging season. Notably, the defeat to West Ham United played a significant role in the decision to part ways with coach Erik ten Hag, despite him having nearly two seasons left on his contract.
