John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his administration to resolve the current power crisis.
The former President emphasized the need for the government to acknowledge its responsibility for the power outages before taking steps to rectify the situation.
“The country is facing a blackout. Poor management of our energy assets and the misuse of ESLA funds, intended for managing current and past debts, have plunged us into darkness once again.
“The most appropriate action for the government is to admit its fault, take ownership of the problem, and commit to finding a solution. Unfortunately, that seems to be lacking. I understand the frustration of businesses and households grappling with the unpredictable power situation.”
Mahama also attributed the current state of affairs to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s handling of ESLA funds.
ESLA, designed by the government, aims to consolidate various energy sector levies to support power generation and address outstanding debts.
He expressed concern over the adverse effects of irregular power supply on businesses and households, stressing the importance of effective planning amidst such challenges. Mahama called for accountability and collective action to tackle the ongoing power crisis.
