Adina Thembi recently opened up about a life-threatening health ordeal she faced when doctors discovered 16 fibroids in her body. The Ghanaian singer initially suspected something was amiss when her cousin, who happened to be a nurse, suspected a fibroid condition. At first, a scan revealed eight fibroids, but as time passed, the situation took a more serious turn.

Adina shared her story, explaining how she relied on exercise to address a noticeable bulge in her lower abdomen that persisted despite her rigorous efforts. “I noticed I was gaining more and more weight, and the bulge was becoming more and more visible,” she said during a conversation with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar.

Her cousin, a nurse, confirmed her suspicions, and Adina embarked on a medical journey to address the issue. She visited different doctors, with the first one mistakenly suggesting she was pregnant. Unsettled by the first doctor’s approach, she sought a second opinion at the Tema Women’s Hospital with Dr. Yaba, who provided a more reassuring perspective.

Ultimately, Adina underwent surgery to remove the fibroids. She had initially booked the surgery to address eight fibroids but was surprised when the doctors removed 16 during the procedure. Some of them were quite large, resembling eggs or walnuts. The presence of these fibroids had led to anemia, which is why Adina referred to the experience as life-threatening.

The award-winning Ghanaian artist shared her fears both before and after the surgery. She had concerns about her survival during the surgery but also worried about potential effects on childbirth. Despite the challenges, Adina remains hopeful and relieved that the fibroids have been removed, and she has returned to good health.
