Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assented into law the three new tax bills recently passed by Parliament in March 2023.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah confirmed this in an interview with JoyNews.

He claims that the document has since been given to the Clerk of Parliament, allowing the rest of the administrative processes to begin.

“From there, the Ghana Revenue Authority will receive the necessary transmittals before beginning implementation.”

The Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2022 are the three new taxes.

The majority in Parliament stated that the measure was part of efforts to raise GH4 billion in revenue annually.

The government also claims that the bills are critical to obtaining the US$3 million bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Minority in Parliament had previously expressed its opposition to the bills, but they were passed despite a near-fatal accident on the way to the House by an MP from the majority.
