Angola has denied that it is eliminating fuel subsidies due to International Monetary Fund (IMF) pressure.
According to Finance Minister Vera Daves, the withdrawal of fuel subsidies was the consequence of a sovereign choice by the Angolan government.
It comes after the government raised the price of petrol from 160 kwanza ($0.27) to 300 kwanza ($0.51) per litre on Thursday.
The policy does not apply to public service cars or motorbikes, the operators of which will receive a non-transferable pre-paid card to be used to purchase fuel.
