According to Malawian police, at least 11 people have died and 16 others are missing as a result of the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Freddy.

We don’t yet know the full extent of the damage or the number of casualties because communication links have been severed.

However, people died when their homes were destroyed, and police in the city of Blantyre is concerned that people are trapped beneath the rubble.

Freddy is one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the southern hemisphere, causing weeks of heavy rain in Mozambique and Malawi.

According to preliminary assessments by humanitarian organizations working in Mozambique, extensive damage to private homes and infrastructure has occurred in more than half of the country’s provinces.
