Australia’s Matthew Leckie was the game-winning player as they defeated Denmark 1-0 to advance to the 2022 World Cup elimination round.

As a result, they tie for second place in the table behind group winners France.

Despite having the advantage in possession throughout the match, Australia earned the three points necessary to surpass Tunisia, which defeated France but only managed to earn four points.

Just three minutes after Tunisia gained the lead against France, Leckie slid the ball home in the second half when it appeared that both of these teams would be leaving.

Despite increased pressure from the Danish team, the Australians managed to hold onto their narrow lead.

Only in 2006 did Australia first advance to a World Cup’s knockout rounds.

On Saturday, the Socceroos will compete against Group C’s winners.
