In a tragic turn of events, the bandits who killed Dr. Tiri Gyan David, a senior lecturer, are now demanding a ransom of ₦300 million from his widow for the release of their two kidnapped children.

Dr. David, who headed the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), was brutally murdered last week in Katsina State, northwest Nigeria. The attack occurred early Tuesday morning at his home in Yarima Quarters, Low-Cost Estate, Dutsinma Local Government Area.

A family friend revealed that the bandits contacted Dr. David’s widow on Sunday, demanding the hefty ransom. The call was answered by Dr. David’s younger brother, who relayed the widow’s desperate plea to the kidnappers. She told them, “You’ve killed the one person who might have been able to get something for you. I’m a widow with no means to raise that kind of money.”

Upon hearing her voice, one of the bandits asked, “Are you the woman whose two boys are here with us?” The call was abruptly ended, and the phone was switched off, cutting off all communication.

The family is now left in a state of anguish, hoping for the safe return of the children amidst this harrowing ordeal.
