FC Barcelona has confirmed that midfielder Pedri sustained a hamstring tear in his left thigh during last weekend’s El Clásico clash with Real Madrid.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the club said, “Pedri has suffered a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh. His recovery will determine when he can return to action.”
According to Spanish journalist Javi Miguel, the 21-year-old is expected to be sidelined for about three weeks, making it unlikely for him to feature again before the November international break. Other reports, however, suggest his recovery could take up to five weeks.
Pedri has been one of Hansi Flick’s key players this season, starting 13 matches and scoring twice — once against Levante and once in the win over Girona. Before this setback, he had missed only one game under the German coach, playing 72 of 73 possible matches.
The injury is a tough blow for Barcelona as they continue to balance their La Liga and Champions League campaigns. The Catalan side currently sits second in the league standings, trailing Real Madrid.
