During a campaign event in Manassas, Virginia, President Joe Biden addressed the key election issue of abortion rights. However, pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the rally, shouting slogans like “Genocide Joe has got to go” at least 10 times. The interruptions, focused on Biden’s perceived support for Israel, marked the most sustained protests of this nature to date.

Despite the disruptions, President Biden launched a robust critique of Donald Trump, accusing him of being “hell-bent” on imposing further abortion restrictions. Biden highlighted Trump’s pride in his Supreme Court picks contributing to overturning the federal right to abortion in 2022. He claimed that Trump and Republicans aim to push for a complete ban on abortion across the United States.

This event was part of Biden’s strategy to prioritize abortion rights in his campaign. The disruptions underscore the challenges among some Democratic voters, particularly regarding Biden’s stance on Israel. The issue of abortion rights has gained significance for Democrats, as evidenced by Biden and Vice President Harris raising it on the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Despite the protests, Democrats view the abortion rights issue as a potential vote winner, aligning with the majority of Americans who support continued access to safe abortion.
