In Accra, a dramatic incident unfolded as members of the Ghana National Fire Service narrowly escaped danger when a two-story building collapsed while they were battling a fire.

Video footage captured the tense moment when the structure collapsed, trapping several firefighters on the top floor, sparking panic among onlookers who fled to safety.

The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed the occurrence on January 24, 2024, in Westlands, West Legon, Accra. Unfortunately, four firefighters were injured, with two sustaining critical injuries.

According to the GNFS, the incident occurred in the afternoon, with four firefighters from the Legon Fire station being the first responders. Two of the injured officers in critical condition are receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Legon, following their referral from Medifem Hospital. The other two officers with minor injuries have been treated and discharged.

The Chief Fire Officer visited the injured officers at UGMC, Legon, assuring them of management’s full support for their swift and complete recovery.
