Joseph “Jo” Mersa Marley, Bob Marley’s grandson, has died.
The reggae legend died on Tuesday at the age of 31. The circumstances of his death are unknown, but he was found in his car and died from asthma-related conditions, according to Miami’s WZPP Radio.
Joseph Marley, the son of Bob Marley, grew up in Jamaica before attending Miami Dade College to study audio engineering.
Marley, like his father and legendary grandfather, was a musician. Joseph released his EP Comfortable in 2014. He was best known for his 2016 hit “Burn It Down,” which he co-wrote with his brother Yohan Marley. Last year, he released his EP Eternal.
Following his death, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed his condolences.
“My heartfelt condolences to Joseph’s friends and associates, as well as the Reggae music fraternity and fans everywhere,” he wrote on Twitter. “His untimely death at the age of 31 is a huge loss to the music as we look forward to the next generation.”

According to an Instagram post, Jo’s most recent performance was on November 13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Following the tragic news, fans and friends expressed their condolences, including DJ Khaled, who tweeted, “My deepest condolences. @jomersamarley, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.”
Marley is survived by his wife, Qiara, and daughter, Sunshine.
