Bruno Fernandes Clears the Air on His Manchester United Future
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made it clear that he won’t be discussing his future until after next year’s World Cup. For now, his attention is fully on helping United achieve their goals this season.
The Portuguese midfielder is set to mark a major milestone this weekend — his 300th appearance for the club — when United face Brighton at Old Trafford. Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, Fernandes has been one of the team’s most consistent performers, missing only 17 matches in nearly five years, with just a few due to injury or illness.
Last summer, Fernandes reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, choosing instead to remain at Old Trafford. Speaking on the speculation surrounding his future, he was direct and calm:
“I’ve heard the rumours, but nothing has been decided or discussed,” he said. “I haven’t spoken to anyone, and my agent knows I won’t until after the World Cup. My focus is completely on Manchester United.”
While reports claim his contract, which runs until 2027 with an additional year’s option, includes a release clause of about £56.6 million, Fernandes insists he’s not looking to leave.
He spoke warmly about his life in Manchester, emphasizing how settled his family feels. “My family is happy here. My kids love their school, and even with the weather, we feel at home,” he said with a smile. “When my wife asked if I’d achieved everything I wanted at this club, I said no. That’s why I’m still here — I want to win trophies and help Manchester United reach the top again.”
Fernandes’ commitment and leadership continue to reflect the spirit of a player who isn’t just wearing the captain’s armband — he’s carrying the club’s ambitions on his shoulders.
