A group identifying as Concerned Citizens of Ghana is making plans to stage a demonstration at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) premises on January 15, 2024. Their primary grievance revolves around the prolonged tenure of the Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah.
The group argues that the GRA head has surpassed the stipulated legal age for a public officer, demanding his prompt retirement. Charles Akowuah, the spokesperson for the group, accuses both the Commissioner-General and Ms. Julie Essiam, Commissioner responsible for the Support Services Division, of exceeding the constitutionally mandated 60-year period for civil servants.
“According to our investigations, Rev. Ammishaddai and Ms. Julie Essiam have chosen to remain in their roles beyond the age of 60, even though their contracts were extended until 2021. This raises concerns about adherence to established retirement policies within the GRA.”
The spokesperson revealed plans for approximately 1,500 individuals to occupy the GRA office after January 15, 2024. The group’s intent is to draw attention to their concerns regarding the extended tenures of the Commissioner-General and Ms. Julie Essiam.
