After Don Lemon alleged he was “stunned” by CNN’s decision to part ways after 17 years, the network has responded to the TV personality’s statement. See what the company had to say.

CNN is airing a response to Don Lemon’s announcement of his departure.

The broadcasting company disputed the longtime anchor’s recollection of events on social media after he claimed he was “stunned” by the network’s decision to part ways on April 24, alleging that the organization did not have “the decency” to inform him directly.

“Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate,” CNN’s communications social media account tweeted. “He was offered a meeting with management but instead issued a statement on Twitter.”

CNN chairman Chris Licht informed colleagues on April 24 that Lemon, 57, would be leaving the network after 17 years.

“CNN and Don have parted ways,” he said in his message. “Don will be remembered as a member of the CNN family for his contributions over the past 17 years.” We wish him the best of luck and will be rooting for him in his future endeavors.”

In a reference to CNN This Morning, which also includes co-hosts, Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow, Licht stated that the show has “been on the air for nearly six months, and we are committed to its success.”

The network’s public response came just moments after the TV host addressed the news of his departure.

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN,” Lemon said in a tweet. “I’m taken aback. After 17 years at CNN, you’d think someone in management would have had the courtesy to tell me directly. There was never any indication that I would be unable to continue doing the work I loved at the network. There are clearly some larger issues at stake.”

Lemon concluded his message by thanking those he has worked with at CNN over the course of his nearly 20-year career.

“With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run,” he continued in his statement. “They are among the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.”

CNN and Lemon have not responded to E! News’ request for additional comment.

In late February, the Louisiana native was chastised for remarks he made about politician Nikki Haley, 51, implying that she was past her prime in reference to her comments about other politicians.

The anchor returned to his news desk a little more than a week later, appearing on the morning show until his final broadcast on April 24.
