Coachella, a music festival in Southern California, announced its 2023 lineup on Tuesday, and it will feature all nonwhite headliners for the first time in the festival’s history.

The largest North American music festival has announced that Puerto Rican hit rapper Bad Bunny, R&B superstar Frank Ocean, and K-pop girl group BLACKPINK will headline the festival, which will take place over two weekends in April.

This year’s lineup will be the festival’s 22nd since its inception in 1999. Due to COVID-19, the festival was canceled in 2020 and 2021, and experienced unexpected changes in 2022, when then-headliner Kanye West dropped out of the lineup.

BLACKPINK and Bad Bunny previously headlined Coachella in 2019, while Ocean has not released an album since 2016’s “Blonde,” and has not performed at the festival since 2012. Ocean was supposed to headline Coachella in 2020, but it was canceled.

According to Pitchfork, BLACKPINK is the first K-pop group to headline Coachella, and Bad Bunny is the first Latin American artist and first Spanish-language musician to headline.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will take place in Indio, California, over two weekends: April 14-16 and April 21-23.

Coachella’s Twitter announcement stated that “very limited Weekend 1 passes remain” for the festival, and that “look to Weekend 2 for your best chance at passes.” The presale begins at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13.
