The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rebutted claims by the Ghana Police Service regarding the involvement of Asutifi South Member of Parliament, Collins Dauda, in recent disturbances during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise in Kukuom.
In their response on Monday, May 13, the NDC criticized the police’s handling of the situation and asserted Dauda’s innocence.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, the police’s allegations against Dauda are unfounded and should not be taken seriously. The NDC contends that the violence stemmed from thugs affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who allegedly instigated chaos at the registration center.
The NDC’s statement clarified that Dauda was not present at the scene of the disturbance in Kukuom. Instead, he was actively monitoring the registration process in his constituency of Asutifi South at the time.
Contrary to the police’s claims, the NDC emphasized that Dauda had no involvement in the incident and was not present during the violence.
The police had announced Dauda’s arrest in connection with the disturbance, which resulted in injuries to one individual who is currently hospitalized. They assured that efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects linked to the incident.
