Côte d’Ivoire has been confirmed as the host for the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision was announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following an executive committee meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.
The tournament will kick off in March 2025, bringing together the best young talent from across the continent. Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are among the teams already set to participate, giving fans plenty to look forward to.
This competition also serves as a pathway to the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Chile. The top four teams that make it to the semi-finals will earn a spot in the World Cup, offering young African players a chance to shine on the international stage.
In other football news, Rivers United’s technical adviser, Finidi George, has voiced his support for two of his players, Stephen Manyo and Taiwo Abdulrafiu, as they prepare to join Nigeria’s national squad. Both players have been invited to compete for a spot in the team that will face Ghana in the African Nations Championship qualifiers.
Speaking to Rivers United Media, Finidi expressed his encouragement, saying, “I’ve spoken to them and wished them the very best. They’re joining the squad of 18 players, and I’m hopeful they’ll make the final cut. If not, we’ll welcome them back to the club, but for now, we’re waiting for updates from the football federation.”
Nigeria’s home-based Eagles are gearing up for the first leg of their clash with Ghana, set to take place on Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The second leg will follow a few days later on December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.
This two-leg showdown promises to be an exciting battle as both teams fight for a spot in the championship.
