Simi, the popular Nigerian singer, recently delved into a potentially controversial topic but highlighted the benefits she sees in it. She expressed her views on marriage during a conversation on the latest episode of the Tea with Tay podcast, advocating for couples to consider living together before marriage.

In her discussion, Simi stressed the importance of comprehending various facets of a person’s personality before making a lifelong commitment. Despite recognizing that her opinion might not resonate with everyone, she shared her perspective openly. “Maybe I shouldn’t share this opinion because I feel like religious people might not agree with me. [But] I personally think that people who want to get married should live together for a little bit before they do that. Because I don’t think you really know someone that you’re going to marry until you cohabit,” Simi began.

Simi underscored the significance of experiencing different dimensions of a partner’s character, which may not surface in public settings.

She elaborated, saying, “The way someone behaves outside in their best demeanor differs from how they are when they’re cranky, hungry, or just waking up in the morning, or even when they’re snoring.”

Simi acknowledged that many couples have successfully married without cohabiting. However, she emphasized that living together offers insights into compatibility, enabling individuals to make more informed decisions about their future together.

“When you share a living space, you see all aspects of a person, and that’s when you truly gauge if you can commit to them long-term. Many couples have tied the knot without living together, but I personally advocate for cohabitation before marriage,” she remarked.

Simi clarified that cohabitation need not be extensive, suggesting that even a short period of living together can provide valuable insights.
