Cristiano Ronaldo, the forward for Al-Nassr, has received a one-match ban for “provoking fans” after the Saudi Pro League victory over Al-Shabab.
Following Sunday’s 3-2 win in Riyadh, Al Shabab supporters taunted Ronaldo with chants of “Messi,” the long-time rival of the Portugal captain.
In response, Ronaldo, 39, gestured to the fans by cupping his hand to his ear, leading to the disciplinary action by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF).
The SAFF disciplinary and ethics committee imposed a fine of 30,000 Saudi Riyals (£6,300) on Ronaldo, with no option for appeal.
Despite opening the scoring with a penalty, Ronaldo witnessed Al-Shabab equalizing twice before Talisca netted the winning goal in the 87th minute.
Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr from Manchester United in December 2022, on a free transfer, reportedly secured him the highest football salary in history.
Throughout the season, Ronaldo has demonstrated his prowess by scoring 20 goals in 22 league games for Al-Nassr, positioning them second in the league table behind Al-Hilal.
