The presidential election petition has set September 6 as the day to deliver the long awaited judgement on the petition filed by Labour party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi and People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential results which saw the All Progressive Congress candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerge as the winner
The two opposition party as well as it’s candidate alleged that the presidential election was marred by wide spread electoral violence, irregularities , and electoral malpractice fully citing the improper application of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in some areas and in other areas it’s haphazard application
The tribunal is set to issue it’s judgement on the Wednesday, 6th of September, as first reported by Sahara reporters
It will be recalled that the presidential election tribunal in may took the decision to merge petitions challenging the outcome of the elections which includes the following petitions from Allied People’s Movement (APM) , Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic party (PDP), Peter Obi’s Labour party (LP)
The court went further to withhold judgement on other petitions
Sequel to the report circulating that the presidential election tribunal had fixed September 16, as the date to issue judgement, which has already been debunked by the tribunal
Nigerians of course are growing impatient but patiently awaiting the outcome of the long legal battles , bottle-neck legal electoral processes and complex interpretation of laws but with hope for the best.
