Davido Sparks Political Buzz With New Track Hinting at Governor Adeleke’s Party Switch
Afrobeats heavyweight David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, may have just stirred the political waters with a fresh track that fans believe hints at his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, preparing to switch parties.
Speculation around Governor Adeleke’s potential move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been swirling for weeks, especially after he and Davido were spotted at a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.
Now, Davido’s new release, “From Umbrella to Broom,” appears to be fanning the flames.
The title alone — referencing the umbrella symbol of the PDP and the broom emblem of the APC — has already fueled conversations online. But it’s the lyrics that really set tongues wagging.
Davido raps,
“New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom…”
—a bold metaphor that many are interpreting as a musical endorsement of a party switch.
In the track, Davido touches on power outages, youth dissatisfaction, and the desire for change, suggesting that a new direction could help deliver better leadership for Osun State.
He doesn’t call out names directly, but lines like
“Them tori us propaganda from January to December, we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America,”
clearly tap into growing frustration around governance and infrastructure.
While there’s been no official confirmation of Governor Adeleke’s defection, Davido’s lyrics are already doing what his songs often do — ignite conversation and keep the streets talking.
