Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Thibaut Courtois will be the starting goalkeeper for the UEFA Champions League final. The match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday at Wembley Stadium.
Andriy Lunin, who played most of the group stage and all knockout games, recently came down with the flu. Due to his illness, he couldn’t train with the team or travel with them to London for the final. Lunin shared on social media that the flu would prevent him from participating in the Champions League final.
In a pre-match press conference on May 31, Ancelotti announced his decision regarding the goalkeeper position for the Spanish giants. Despite Lunin’s situation, he will still travel to London separately and watch the final from the bench.
“Thibaut Courtois will start tomorrow. Lunin will be on the bench,” Ancelotti stated.
As Real Madrid aims to secure their record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title against Borussia Dortmund, all eyes will be on Courtois to deliver a stellar performance.
