At the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, Kanye West comes in second with 10 nominations, and Kendrick Lamar is just behind with nine. Drake gets the top spot with 14 nominations.
The Certified Lover Boy MC has received numerous nominations in the same category for hip-hop artist of the year, hustler of the year, lyricist of the year, best live performer, and hip-hop album of the year. He is up for best hip-hop video, best collaboration, and song of the year for his work on Future’s “Way 2 Sexy” with Young Thug and Future, as well as his appearance on Future’s “Wait for You” (also featuring Tems). Drake received two nominations in the Sweet 16: best-featured verse category for his cameos on “Wait for You” and Jack Harlow’s “Churchill Downs”; in the best collaboration category, Drake received a total of three nominations for his work with 21 Savage on “Jimmy Cooks.”
Similar to Drake, Ye is nominated for awards in the categories of best live performance, best hip-hop album, best hip-hop video, best collaboration, song of the year, and best-featured verse. His “City of Gods” collaboration with Fivio Foreign and Alicia Keys has him nominated for producer of the year and impact tune.
In addition to being nominated for video director of the year, Lamar and Dave Free’s “Family Ties” is also up for best hip-hop video, best collaboration, and impact single. For the latter, Lamar has also received a nomination for “The Heart Part 5.”
With eight nominations, Future is fourth, followed by Baby Keem, Cardi B, and J. Cole receives six nods in a tie.
This year’s show will be hosted by Fat Joe. He had earlier told Billboard that “this will be the BIGGEST award event in history.” I can’t express my gratitude to Connie Orlando and the entire BET family enough for the opportunity to host and produce the BET Hip Hop Awards. We’re going to commemorate the biggest and brightest talents in the world, celebrate music, culture, and entertainment, and make this a night to remember filled with surprises and laughs. Never forget that the host from yesterday is not the host from today.
A group of insiders from the music business voted to determine the nominees in 17 categories.
The 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, as previously announced, will be taped at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Centre on September 30 and will be telecast for the first time on Tuesday, October 4, at 9 p.m. PT on BET.
