The Minister of Communications and Digitization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, recently addressed the stance of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding online polls leading up to the 2024 general elections.

She dismissed the online polls that place Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia behind John Drama Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as mere gimmicks. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful highlighted that while there’s a buzz on social media about the NPP potentially losing the elections, the actual voting will not occur online.

Drawing a comparison, she mentioned Peter Obi’s popularity on social media before the recent Nigerian elections, suggesting that if online buzz dictated outcomes, he would have been Nigeria’s president. However, she emphasized that elections are won at the polling stations, not on social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful reiterated that the real work happens on the ground, underscoring the importance of focusing efforts at the polling stations. She emphasized the significance of patience and highlighted the necessity of demonstrating political support where it truly matters.

Additionally, the Ablekuma West legislator praised the performance of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government across various sectors of the economy. She expressed confidence that Akufo-Addo will be remembered as one of Ghana’s best presidents. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful drew parallels with former President John Agyekum Kufuor and the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who were criticized during their tenures but are now viewed differently by people.
