Former Super Bowl Champion Bashaud Breeland Arrested on Multiple Charges.
Former Kansas City Chiefs player and one-time Super Bowl champion, Bashaud Breeland, has been apprehended in Charlotte, North Carolina. Breeland, now a free agent, is facing allegations of possessing a stolen vehicle, illegal firearms, and controlled substances, as reported by WBTV-3.
Arrest records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office indicate that Breeland, aged 31, is confronted with an array of charges. These include possession of a stolen motor vehicle, tampering with serial numbers, modifying a vehicle title, illegal possession of cannabis, possessing a Schedule I controlled substance, and having stolen firearms.
According to reports, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department purportedly discovered Breeland with approximately 62 grams of suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms, over five pounds of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and multiple stolen firearms, including two AR-15s and two AK-47s. The discovery allegedly occurred during a traffic stop on a Monday afternoon.
The seized drugs and weapons were assessed, with the guns valued at more than $3,000, the marijuana at $5,000, and the mushrooms at $2,000, according to the Charlotte Observer. Breeland, a South Carolina native, was released on Tuesday after posting a $30,000 bond.
This isn’t the first instance of legal trouble for Breeland. In August 2020, he received a four-game suspension from the NFL due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. This stemmed from an arrest in April of that year in South Carolina, where he faced charges such as transporting alcohol with a broken seal, possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, marijuana possession, driving without a license, and resisting arrest.
Following his arrest in 2020, Breeland took to Instagram to publicly apologize to his fans, teammates, and the Chiefs organization. He expressed his accountability for his actions and looked forward to rejoining his teammates on the field to defend their Super Bowl title.
Breeland, a cornerback, played in the NFL for eight seasons, starting with the Washington Redskins (now Washington Commanders) in 2014. He agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract with the Carolina Panthers in 2018, but the deal was canceled due to a non-football-related foot injury that led to an infection. He was eventually released as a free agent and hasn’t played in the NFL since 2021.
