Two men have been charged with murder and arson after allegedly assisting convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester in his escape from a South African prison.
A suspended prison warden and Bester’s girlfriend’s father appeared in court to face the charges but were not asked to enter a plea.
Their case has been continued until next Monday in order to consider a possible bail application. They have been detained by police.
According to court documents, the two men are accused of murdering an unidentified person on purpose in March of last year.
On Friday, Bester and his girlfriend, Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, were apprehended in Tanzania.
Bester escaped from prison last May after planting a corpse in his cell to impersonate his own death.

When news of the jailbreak broke last month, the couple fled the country.
According to South African officials in Tanzania, the fugitives are now being closely monitored by police at Arusha Central Prison.
The officials are in town to secure the couple’s deportation and transport them to South Africa, where they will face charges for their daring escape.
Bester, dubbed the “Facebook rapist” because he used the social networking site to lure his victims, was thought to have died in a mysterious fire in his cell last May.
In 2012, he was convicted of raping and murdering his then-girlfriend, model Nomfundo Tyhulu. He had been convicted of raping and robbing two other women a year before.
