A convicted rapist and murderer who escaped from prison last year have made his first court appearance since his re-arrest earlier this month.
Thabo Bester, the so-called “Facebook rapist” who used the social media site to lure victims, claimed at a hearing on Friday that his ID number is incorrectly listed on documents and that he cannot eat prison food for fear of being poisoned.
Instead, he wants his lawyers to provide him with meals, and he hasn’t eaten in 48 hours.
Bester’s lawyers said he would not seek bail, but that he retains the right to do so at a later date.
Bester’s case has been rescheduled for next month.
