According to him, Mauritanian police at the Nouakchott airport has barred former President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz from traveling abroad.

He charged the “corrupt regime” with “targeting and mistreating” him. The government has yet to comment. The former president and top officials who worked for him from 2008 to 2019 are being investigated for corruption and mismanagement. According to the AFP news agency, Mr. Abdelaziz claims he is the victim of political score-settling and claims immunity under the country’s constitution.
