Prince Ajibola Afonja, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity during Chief Ernest Sonekan’s Interim National Government, has passed away at the age of 82. He served as the Chairman of First Bank and hailed from Oyo town, Oyo State.
Reports indicate that Prince Ajibola Afonja sustained injuries in a lone accident near his country home in Ilora and was promptly taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Chairman of Oyo Global Forum, Taiwo Adebayo, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting the significant impact Prince Ajibola Afonja had on Oyo town. He described the late prince as an exceptional community leader and an outstanding industrialist.
In his tribute, Adebayo emphasized Prince Ajibola Afonja’s legacy of generosity and kindness, which touched the lives of many. He noted the late prince’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of Oyo’s community and his visionary contributions to the nation’s economy, particularly through his pioneering efforts in business, such as the E-Customs project.
Despite the void left by his passing, Adebayo expressed confidence that Prince Ajibola Afonja’s spirit of leadership and generosity would continue to inspire others. He pledged to honor the late prince’s memory by upholding the values he embodied and continuing his legacy of service and compassion.
