Ghana has proudly announced its membership in the select group of African nations offering visa-free entry to citizens from the continent. President Nana Akufo-Addo made this historic declaration during the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue in Accra, underlining Ghana’s dedication to promoting greater unity and cooperation among African countries.
Upon implementation, Ghana will join a distinguished list of only five African countries granting unrestricted access to travelers from across the continent, including Seychelles, Gambia, Benin, Kenya, and Rwanda.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized the profound impact of such policies on a continental scale, stressing the importance of free movement for people, goods, and services. He highlighted the potential advantages, including enhanced trade and the pursuit of economic transformation throughout Africa.
Speaking to attendees, Akufo-Addo recognized the challenges many faced to participate in the event and showcased Ghana’s commitment by reducing visa fees by 50% for conference attendees, with an option for on-site visa issuance.
The government’s dedication to ensuring visa-free access for all Africans entering Ghana marks a progressive stride toward dismantling longstanding barriers that have impeded intra-continental interactions.
