In Guinea, a security officer was sentenced to ten years in prison for the murder of a 19-year-old.
During opposition coalition protests last June, Moriba Camara shot and killed Thierno Mamadou Diallo.

The prosecution had sought a longer sentence of 25 years in prison for Camara, and the victim’s brother was quoted as saying that the court’s lesser sentence of 10 years was too light for such a crime.
Guinea has been ruled by military leaders since 2021 when ex-President Alpha Condé was deposed in a coup.
The junta banned the influential FNDC opposition coalition, which had previously led protests against Mr. Condé as well as the new military rulers, in August of last year.
