On December 11, 2023, Marrakesh, Morocco hosted the 2023 CAF Awards ceremony, where Nigeria clinched top honors in both the male and female football categories. Victor Osimhen, the prolific Napoli striker, was crowned African Male Footballer of the Year, while Asisat Oshoala of Barcelona secured the title of African Female Footballer of the Year. Osimhen’s remarkable achievement came on the heels of his instrumental role in guiding Napoli to their first Serie A title in over 30 years, amassing an impressive 27 goals across all competitions.

The Italy-based striker’s stellar performances illuminated Italian football, contributing to the success of the Napoli team.

As for Asisat Oshoala, she secured her record-breaking sixth win of the award, driven by her influential role in Barcelona’s triumph in the Champions League. Oshoala’s consistent excellence on the field continues to set her apart in the world of women’s football.
