Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDermott has opened up about her struggle with chronic kidney disease, revealing that her long-term use of painkillers played a significant role in her health issues. In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ufuoma candidly discussed how her childhood migraines led to her reliance on pain medication, which she now regrets.

Reflecting on her past, Ufuoma admitted that during her younger years, she frequently turned to strong painkillers to alleviate her suffering, often carrying them in her wallet and sharing them with friends. She expressed remorse for not prioritizing her health, saying, “My chronic kidney disease started from drug abuse. I was so caught up in the hustle that I neglected self-care. I had migraines and wanted immediate relief.”

She recalled how her mother would supply her with painkillers for boarding school, highlighting the normalization of this habit. Ufuoma emphasized the importance of understanding health and taking care of oneself, especially after witnessing her brother’s late-stage kidney disease diagnosis, which escalated to the need for dialysis.

“I have been on medication for almost 12 years now,” she shared. “When my brother fell ill, we had to trace the cause of our kidney issues and discovered it was linked to drug abuse.” Ufuoma urged everyone to value their health and be more mindful of their choices, hoping her story will inspire others to take better care of themselves.
