The latest addition to Manchester United’s ownership, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has reportedly given the green light for the club to part ways with 11 of its players.
While Sir Jim Ratcliffe may not hold the majority stake in the Red Devils, he oversees the club’s football operations, giving him significant influence over player and coach decisions.
A key objective on his agenda is to revamp the club’s squad by trimming down the roster and introducing fresh talent as swiftly as possible.
According to ESPN, the British billionaire has sanctioned a substantial overhaul of the team’s first-team squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Rather than focusing primarily on new signings, the INEOS Group chairman aims to initiate the team’s reconstruction by streamlining the current lineup through sales.
In addition to shedding deadweight from the squad, the clearout serves to create space for incoming players, mitigating the risk of breaching financial fair play regulations.
Manchester United’s failure to advance to the UEFA Champions League knockout stage has strained their finances. If they miss out on UCL qualification this season, their financial situation could deteriorate further, hence the necessity for the clearout.
Among the players likely to depart this summer, approved by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, and Raphael Varane.
Also on the list are Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams, and Facundo Pellistri.
Regarding Anthony Martial, the out-of-favour French international, he is anticipated to exit Old Trafford as a free agent this summer since his contract with the club expires in June 2024.
