Jonah Hill is refusing to appear in Kanye West’s latest drama.
The actor made headlines after the embattled rapper claimed that after seeing Hill in the 2012 film 21 Jump Street, he “likes Jewish people again.”
Photographers waited for Hill as he left dinner in Santa Monica on Tuesday. A TMZ cameraman attempted to question him about West’s recent remarks, but he avoided the media circus. Instead, he ignored the question and drove away.
Over the weekend, West took to Instagram to thank Hill’s performance in 21 Jump Street for changing his opinion of Jews.
“Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again,” Ye wrote alongside a poster for the film, which stars Hill and Channing Tatum as undercover cops at a local high school.
“No one should take their rage at one or two individuals and channel it into hatred for millions of innocent people,” he added. “No Christian can be called antisemitic because Jesus is Jewish.” Thank you so much, Jonah Hill. I adore you.”
However, his remarks about Hill were not interpreted as an apology. StopAntisemitism and the American Jewish Committee, two anti-Semitism watchdog organizations, said West needs to do more than make a social media post if he truly wants to change his ways.
“Joking about a movie with Jonah Hill is not the apology that the Jewish people deserve from Kanye,” Liora Rez, Executive Director of StopAntisemitism, told TMZ.
Hill has maintained a low profile. He announced last year that he was retiring from social media after a 20-year battle with anxiety.
