Jordan Ayew to Lead Ghana in Crucial 2023 AFCON Qualifier

In a significant development, Jordan Ayew has been named the captain of the Ghanaian national football team, the Black Stars, for their upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR). The crucial match is set to take place this afternoon at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, with Ghana needing at least a draw to secure their spot at next year’s tournament in the Ivory Coast.

Notably, the substantive captain, Andre Ayew, has been left on the bench by coach Chris Hughton for this game. Additionally, the team’s two assistant captains, Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey, are unavailable due to injury.

This decision places the responsibility squarely on Jordan Ayew’s shoulders as he takes on the role of captain, and the expectations are high for him to lead the Black Stars to a successful outcome in this crucial qualifier.

With the absence of the aforementioned trio in the starting lineup, coach Chris Hughton has entrusted Jordan Ayew with the captain’s armband against CAR. The Crystal Palace forward has been in fine form at the start of the season, particularly in the Premier League, where he has notched up three assists in four games, earning him the coveted player of the month award at the club.

As the match unfolds, Lawrence Ati Zigi will take his place between the posts, while the defensive line will be composed of Alidu Seidu, Abdul Baba Rahman, Alexander Djiku, and Joseph Aidoo. In the midfield, Abdul Salis Samed and Elisha Owusu will form a dynamic duo, while Jordan Ayew and Osman Bukari will provide width on the right and left flanks, respectively.

The role of being the creative force in the no.10 position falls to the newly-signed West Ham United player, Mohammed Kudus, while Inaki Williams assumes the pivotal role as the team’s main striker.
