Justin Timberlake is going back in time.
The pop superstar’s next album is reportedly finished and will have a sound similar to his previous work. Timbaland compared the “fun” project to FutureSex/LoveSounds, which he produced, in an interview with Variety.
“We just finished, and everything sounds fantastic.” “It’s really up to him how and when he wants it to come out, but it’s done and it’s coming,” the super-producer said.
He revealed that they wanted to recreate the vibe of Timberlake’s 2006 album, which produced hits such as “SexyBack,” “My Love,” and “What Goes Around… Comes Around.”
“It’s fun, Justin — it’s like FutureSex/LoveSounds but not too heavy, just giving you what you expect from us,” he continued. “Music is a young sport — of course, we’ve both been through a lot in our lives, but you have to bring out the 13-year-old kid again, you know?”
Timberlake’s most recent album, Man of the Woods, was released in 2018 and featured Timbaland, The Neptunes, Alicia Keys, and Chris Stapleton.
The dynamic duo is not overthinking it this time. “We had some songs that were maybe too complicated, so we said we want it to feel like FutureSex part two, so we did songs that fit that,” Timbaland explained.
Timbaland has also been in the studio with Missy Elliott, whose upcoming album will feature a reggaeton-infused sound dubbed “Missy-ton.”

“I know how Missy works: it has to be new and fun — or maybe not so new as underground, and everything is upbeat,” he explained. “Some of it has a Latin vibe to it, almost like a Bad Bunny effect, and some of it sounds like underground Brazilian funk.” People will devour it, and it may reach a slightly different demographic. It’s like she’s doing it… not reggaeton, but Missy-ton.”
He hopes to have the long-awaited project ready for release this summer. “We’re going to start recording a lot of songs soon, and my dream is to have it out around her birthday in July.” I want it to sound like she looks right now, which she does. See how we both look like we’re 19 again?”
