Kate Henshaw, the esteemed Nollywood actress and fitness enthusiast, has expressed her concern over the safety of young individuals partaking in the NYSC program. Reflecting on her own experiences as a corps member, she has called for the program’s abolition, citing the current risks and challenges faced by those participating.

Through her Twitter account, Kate Henshaw shared her thoughts on the matter. She recounted her time serving in the North, highlighting the positive memories she garnered during that period. She mentioned the safety she felt when traveling from Bauchi to the airport and flying to Lagos using her NYSC ID card, which even provided her with a ticket discount.

Nonetheless, she firmly believes that the time has come to reconsider the NYSC program, given the prevailing circumstances. Kate emphasized that present-day corps members encounter obstacles and dangers while traveling within the country, questioning the rationale behind exposing young lives to unnecessary hazards due to outdated notions.

In her tweet, she articulated her perspective:

“As someone who experienced serving in the North, those were cherished moments. I could travel from Bauchi to the airport by road and then fly to Lagos with ease, using just my NYSC ID card that also entitled me to a ticket rebate. The time has come to reevaluate this concept, as corps members are facing impediments and uncertainties while traveling across our nation! We must prioritize security and address this comprehensively, not just partially 🤨🙄”

Kate Henshaw’s words highlight the need for safety and the well-being of young people engaged in national service, advocating for a more secure and updated approach that aligns with contemporary challenges.
