Reports that the families of former presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi were being targeted for tax cheating have been denied by Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.

Mr. Mudavadi asserted that the claims were inferences made by the media and that President William Ruto had not mentioned any names in his campaign for tax compliance.

But he is adamant that everyone must pay taxes to support the government’s operations.

It comes after the widespread distribution of a video on social media in which the former first lady Ngina Kenyatta declared in front of the world that her family had paid all taxes owed.

She said that if allegations of unpaid taxes can be proven, she is willing to cooperate with any investigation into tax evasion and will make good on any arrears.
