Human Rights Watch (HRW) has urged Kenyan authorities to conduct an urgent investigation into police abuse after criticizing them for failing to take action in the recent deaths of protesters.

Riot police were deployed in March and April to quell protests called by the opposition’s Raila Odinga in Nairobi, Kisumu, Migori, and Homa Bay.

He has refused to recognize William Ruto’s election victory last year.

According to HRW and Amnesty International, excessive force was used, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 people.

According to the police, some protesters were violent or looted.

According to human rights organizations, the majority of victims were bystanders. They accused the police of using live ammunition in residential areas and classrooms.
