Nana Ohene Ntow, the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has voiced his perspective on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership style, emphasizing a perceived lack of receptiveness to the voices of party members.

Having been expelled from the NPP for endorsing Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen as an independent candidate for the 2024 election, Nana Ohene Ntow highlighted a contrast between the leadership styles of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and the current President. In an interview on Accra-based Neat FM, Ntow expressed, “Recently, NPP MPs, the majority in parliament, urged the president to dismiss Ken Ofori-Atta due to poor performance.”

He went on to describe President Akufo-Addo’s response, stating, “President Akufo-Addo asserted his authority, insisting that Ofori-Atta would remain in his position, and indeed, he has remained until now.”

Nana Ohene Ntow conveyed his observation that President Akufo-Addo, unlike other leaders, tends to assert his authority without much consideration for the concerns raised by party members. He contrasted this with the listening approach of Alan Kyerematen and former President Kufuor.

Ntow defended his endorsement of Alan, asserting that such choices are made based on the character of the candidate, and individuals should be free to express their preferences.

Adding to the dissenting voices within the party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, a former Member of Parliament from Adentan who was also expelled from the NPP, accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of exerting excessive influence over the party. Asamoa highlighted a division within the party due to factionalism, claiming that the government led by Nana Addo has taken control, and the president’s dominating personality plays a significant role in shaping the party’s direction.
